Harrison Bergeron (Short story analyzed by me ^^)

• Plot Summary

In 2081,everybody was finally equal based on Amendments to the Constitution and to the unceasing vigilance of agents of the United States Handicapper General,Diana Moon Glampers.Everyone that has an excess,such as in intelligence or appeareance will be loadee by many things (handicap,padlock,sashweights,masked,etc) to make them same as others.

A couple-George and Hazel Bergeron-have a son,Harrison.He is smarter,more handsome,etc than anyone,so the agents caught him.George and Hazel knew about it,but they couldn’t think more about Harrison because many ‘stuff’ are wore by the agents to George and Hazel’s limitidness in thinking.

They (George and Hazel) were talking about the law when the TV showed Ballet’s show.Then the Show interupted by a news that talked about Harrison.Harrison had escaped from jail and become ‘the most wanted person.’

Suddenly,Harrison came to the studio,in the middle of the news and start his rebellion to the government.He showed his power,told that he is The Emperor and were searching for The Empress.After find the Empress,he stripped the musicians handicap for play beautiful music and then Harrison and his Empress started to dance.

Unfortunately,The Handicapper General-Diana Moon Glamper- came and fired him and his Empress twice with shotgun.Harrison and his Empress die.

Harrison’s mom watched in TV,she was really sad and cried but she didn’t know why because she had a limitedness in think.She had a short term memory.So,when her husband asked her she just replied,”I forget” and her husband told,”forget sad things.”

It happened,they forget anything about Harrison,their son.......

This story theme is satirizing human society in US where they want equality in all aspect in human live. Actually,equality doesn’t bring much positive impact in human society than difference for basically human are made different.Although the citizen agreed to do that.It limited for people creativity

The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas

1 Plot summary

There is a Festival of Summer in Omelas,an utopian city, and all of the citizens prepare to welcome it. Omelas,is a beautiful city.The happines in Omelas seems deceive.Look perfect outside but actually bad inside because it has a secret behind all the happiness. The deceive happiness (something rather stupid) and the circumstances of the citizens in Omelas City where there’s no rules,but they happy.They enjoyed their lives because they could did all they want to did.

On the other hand,there was a child about ten years old,alone in the dark room in a basement under one of the beautiful public buildings of Omelas who feeble-minded,imbecible through fear,malnutrition,neglect,fumbles vaguely with its toes or genitals. His buttocks and thighs are a mass of festered sores.He was naked.No calves to its legs and belly protrudes.

However, his miserable and pain became the happiness of the citizen in Omelas.For an unclearly reason,all the Omelas perfection is based on the child and people (in Omelas) who saw and knew what happened with the child but coldn’t did anything to helped him,would weeped and raged then left the Omelas,to the place where the ones who walk away from Omelas.

2 Character sketch

            A child,nearly ten,unclearly boy or girl.It is feeble-minded.Perhaps it was born defective,or perhaps it has become imbecible through fear,malnutririon,and neglect.It picks its nose and occasionally fumbles vaguely with its toes or genitals,as it sits hunched in the corner.The child has no understanding of time or interval.Sometimes it speaks,”I will be good”.It is so thin there are no calves to its legs,belly protrudes.Its buttocks and thighs are a mass of festered sores.It so miserable and pain,seems no live.

3 Theme analysis

           

This story is a critics for our society where there are many people be happy above others people’s suffering,include children abuse,human traficking or childrens worker.People can do anything to reach what they want but sometimes they forget the morality and responsibility as a human.

MY COMMENT

The vocabularies in this story are difficult to understand and enough complicated but I like this story,even in the beginning,I didn’t understand.It can add my vocabularies.I like about beautiful place,but I don’t like the fact behind all the happiness,its so irony.
